Let me fill in the blank:________
I’ll count the ways. Reagan wasn’t a perfect man. He was divorced for starters. There were so many against him in both elections. He even lost his first election for president. He was too bold. Too committed. Too cordial. Too witty. Too kind. Too sincere. Too Christian. He was an actor! He was no peanut farmer. One such embittered soul even tried to kill Reagan, that is how bad he was. Some of this I didn’t know. I guess I learned a few things at least.
This movie will surely bring some to question, even I say, dare to compare Trump to Reagan. Let me say before you conclude, Donald Trump is no Reagan; I would heartily agree. There will not be another Reagan and that is the primary reason this movie can’t help us now.
We might begin to think that our world is like it was back in the 80’s. We might think that communist and marxist ideology is somehow lurking in our own government, in our institutions of higher education, in Hollywood and even behind such wonderful ideas as diversity, equity and inclusion. That would be hilariously unproductive to think we are facing the same sorts of threats today. That was cold-war era mess. We are past all that now so this Reagan movie is at best a good ole walk down nostalgia lane.
I wouldn’t want to unnecessarily cause any who champion for their cause to be dismayed by the distractions that this movie highlights, even lauds. “Clarity is power” is one annoying climax that we are all well beyond these days to be called back to such nonsense. Other annoying themes like dealing with bullies…so 80’s. How could I in good conscience recommend any sort of tactics like confrontation, facing the bully, standing your ground. That would definitely be ill advised today. We deal with these sorts of things more diplomatically today. If anything history has taught us is that bullies will go away if you just tell them to.
I could really go on and on with filling in the blank but maybe it’s just best to make it super clear.
I can’t recommend the Reagan Movie, enough.
Truthfully if you’re giggling with Kamala then you will probably cringe a lot throughout the movie as to the passion, the drive, the commitment to, strong, clear and christian principles that marked this imperfect man. I’ll not spoil the many ways that those interested in doing so can draw comparisons and lines between that 80’s era world and our own. If you’re one that would like to deny that fact then go see the movie and make the case we live in radically different time.
There is one real reason you ought to go prepared to this movie because you may be caught off guard, as I was, and have to wipe your eyes with a salt and butter soaked napkin. I really can’t recommend that part but otherwise, for “clarity is power” sake, I can’t recommend the Reagan Movie, enough.
If you’ve watched the movie I’d like to hear from you! Especially if you had the butter and salt napkin experience at the end. Also I forgot this little detail about Reagan. We need a lot more jelly beans in this crazy world.
