The Video That Dropped 18.6 lbs in 3 Days – Dr. Annette Bosworth (Dr. Boz) & Insulin Resistance

After committing to change and realizing I needed the science behind it, the very first video I watched was Dr. Annette Bosworth (Dr. Boz) on The Diary of a CEO. It didn’t just inform me—it completely reframed how I saw my body and kicked the entire journey into high gear.

I used to believe the standard advice was all there was: eat less, move more, count calories. Dr. Boz showed me the real driver behind stubborn weight, inflammation, high blood pressure, and even brain decline is insulin resistance. The biggest surprise? When you do keto right, you produce clean-burning ketones that act as super-fuel for the brain—they cross the blood-brain barrier, work as powerful antioxidants, improve focus, mood, strength, and (for some) even reverse grey hair. (Still plenty of grey here, but I’ll take the extra wisdom that comes with it.)

She taught the Dr. Boz Ratio (glucose ÷ ketones) to know whether your brain is burning fat or sugar, the warning signs of high insulin (skin tags, velvety neck skin, hairless toes), why breakfast can be the most dangerous meal, and the power of stopping food after 6 p.m. She also covered the famous Sardine Challenge and her 12-step Keto Continuum for staying keto for life.

I started 18/6 fasting that same day. The result? 18.6 lbs gone in three days. Much of it was water weight from glycogen loss, but it was the unmistakable start of real metabolic reprogramming—shifting from a sugar-storing machine to a fat-burning one.

Just a quick note on my dramatic 18-pound drop: it wasn’t all pure fat loss—there were a couple of big factors at play.

First, the initial doctor’s office weigh-in was fully clothed (shoes and all—no surprise there!), while my follow-up home weigh-ins have been naked first thing in the morning. Studies show clothes typically add 2–5 pounds depending on what you’re wearing (often around 3–4 lbs with shoes for many people), so I’d guess 4–5 pounds of that difference came from just ditching the outfit.

The rest? Mostly water weight! When you start keto, your body quickly depletes glycogen stores (which hold onto a lot of water—about 3–4 grams of water per gram of glycogen). That means a fast flush of 5–10+ pounds of water in the first week or two is super common, especially early on.

So yeah, the scale moved fast, but it was a combo of those two things kicking things off.

Keto is still an amazing tool—I’m loving the energy, mental clarity, and steady progress now that the initial whoosh is behind me. I think you’ll find it fascinating too once you’re in it!

In the next post I’ll show how this insulin foundation completely overturned my old calorie-counting mindset and focused everything on shrinking fat cells.

Here are the 6 game-changing videos that powered my keto journey (and will be the focus of my upcoming posts).

Feel free to dive in early—I’ve rewatched most of them multiple times because each listen revealed something new I’d missed before. These aren’t just talks; they retrained my mind and body, unlocking real metabolic shifts, mental clarity, and sustainable fat loss.
