Calories Never Mattered the Way I Thought – Dr. Benjamin Bikman on Insulin & Shrinking Fat Cells

Building directly on Dr. Boz’s breakthrough explanation of insulin resistance, I found Dr. Benjamin Bikman on the same podcast. It was the perfect follow-up punch that made everything click into place.

I used to view weight loss purely through calories in versus calories out. Bikman shattered that myth, showing how chronic high insulin from constant carbs locks fat inside cells and overloads the liver. The real key isn’t restriction—it’s lowering insulin to let fat cells shrink and drain the liver.

Surprises kept coming: ketones become the brain’s preferred fuel, kill hunger, boost metabolism, and protect the heart. He explained cancer as a metabolic disease that runs on sugar (the Warburg effect). On GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, he noted the muscle-loss risks, which is why I chose the natural metabolic route instead. (I’m not against them for others—I’d just love to hear your experience if you’ve tried them.)

Armed with this, I stopped counting calories entirely. I kept my near-daily exercise and drank even more water, and the weight kept melting off steadily. I stopped asking “how many” and started asking “what’s my insulin doing?”

I used to think hunger was weakness. Now I know it was my old sugar-burning system screaming for help. Retraining it felt incredibly empowering.

Next, I’ll share how these metabolic shifts dramatically transformed my mood, focus, and daily energy levels.

Here are the 6 game-changing videos that powered my keto journey (and will be the focus of my upcoming posts).

Feel free to dive in early—I’ve rewatched most of them multiple times because each listen revealed something new I’d missed before. These aren’t just talks; they retrained my mind and body, unlocking real metabolic shifts, mental clarity, and sustainable fat loss.
