What Now? A Better Way Forward for the Church

We’ve covered a lot of ground in this past week.

Key Insights from the Series

Summary of the 7-part series: “Reigning Now – Why Dispensationalism’s Third Temple Push Is a Present Danger.” Images provide visual context to the discussed elements.

Advanced Preparations for a Literal Third Temple

Summary: Preparations in Jerusalem are far advanced: sacred vessels complete, hundreds of priests trained in rituals, and red heifer candidates ready for purification rites (Numbers 19) to enable renewed sacrifices.

Powerful Alliance Driving the Efforts

Summary: American evangelical pastors (Greg Locke, Tom Horn, John Hagee, Perry Stone) and groups like CUFI (10+ million members) actively promote, fund, and lobby for Third Temple progress, linking it to end-times prophecy.

The Numbers: Widespread Evangelical Support

Dispensational Framework Unpacked

Summary: This theology views the church age as a “parenthesis,” postpones Christ’s full reign, and maintains separate plans for Israel and the Church, requiring a future literal Temple with sacrifices.

Biblical Reality: Christ Reigns Now

Summary: Scripture affirms Jesus already reigns with all authority (Matt 28:18; Eph 1:20-23; 1 Cor 15:24-28), the true Temple is His church (1 Cor 3:16), the cross finished sacrifices forever (Heb 10), and one new humanity exists in Him (Eph 2).

The Serious Cost of This Theology

Summary: It risks confusing gospel truths, promoting idolatry via renewed sacrifices in unbelieving Israel, diminishing Christ’s present reign, and encouraging real-world geopolitical recklessness in pursuit of prophecy.

So where do we go from here? Here is a clear, practical, biblical way forward for pastors, churches, and individual believers.

Teach Christ’s Present Reign Boldly and Regularly

Proclaim the Full New Testament Reality of Christ’s Present Kingship

These passages affirm that Jesus Christ is not waiting for a future throne—He reigns now with full authority, seated in glory, and will continue until every enemy is defeated.

Reject Partial or Future-Only Views

Key Declaration: Stop treating Jesus’ kingship as “partial,” “spiritual only,” or “not yet real.” The New Testament presents His reign as full, active, and present—right now.

All Authority Has Been Given

Scripture Reference: Matthew 28:18

Key Declaration: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Jesus Himself declares this immediately after His resurrection—complete and universal authority belongs to Him today.

Open Bible on Authority

Seated and Reigning Now

Scripture Reference: Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 10:12; Colossians 1:13

Key Declaration: He is seated at the right hand of God, reigning now.
• After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high (Heb 1:3).
• After offering one sacrifice for sins forever, He sat down at the right hand of God (Heb 10:12).
• He has rescued us and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves (Col 1:13).

Ongoing Reign Until Final Victory

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 15:24-28

Key Declaration: “He must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.” Christ is actively reigning in the present; He continues reigning until every enemy—including death—is subdued. Only then will He hand the completed kingdom to the Father. The reign is now and ongoing, not postponed.

Heavenly Bible Symbolism

Symbolic heavenly Bible — representing the victorious, ongoing reign

Make Acts 2 (Peter’s Pentecost sermon) and Psalm 110 staples in your mind and in your preaching. The Davidic throne is occupied today. The King is not waiting for a building project in Jerusalem — He is reigning right now.

Center the Finished Work of the Cross

The New Covenant is not Plan B or a parenthesis. Teach clearly and often:

  • Jesus is the once-for-all sacrifice (Hebrews 10:10-14). Renewed animal sacrifices would be idolatry and a public denial of the sufficiency of His blood.
  • The church itself is God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 2:21-22).

This truth must be proclaimed unapologetically in pulpits and small groups. Anything less leaves people vulnerable to the very errors we’ve examined.

Pray for Israel’s Salvation Through the Gospel Alone

Romans 11 makes it plain: God has not cast off His ancient people. There remains a future for ethnic Israel—but that future is found exclusively through faith in Jesus the Messiah, not through rebuilt temples, restored animal sacrifices, or any revival of Old Covenant rituals. The New Testament is unequivocal: these were shadows pointing to Christ; in Him they are fulfilled and set aside forever (Hebrews 10:1–18; Colossians 2:16–17).

We must therefore counter these efforts deliberately and without apology. This is not merely a matter of charitable disagreement or differing eschatological opinions. It is serious error that distorts the gospel and must be confronted plainly. The widespread acceptance of this teaching does not lessen its gravity—it heightens the urgency to speak the truth in love and call the church back to the sufficiency of Christ alone.

  • Pray for Jewish people to recognize Jesus as their long-awaited Messiah.
  • Support gospel-preaching ministries to Israel rather than organizations that fund Temple Institute projects or encourage end-times speculation.

Our love for Israel is expressed by proclaiming the finished work of Christ, not by cheering geopolitical steps toward a Third Temple.

Reject Fear-Based End-Times Speculation

Too much modern prophecy teaching breeds anxiety, distraction, and sometimes reckless political positions. Return to the simplicity of the gospel and the blessed hope of Christ’s return (Titus 2:13).

Focus on being faithful disciples in the present age rather than trying to “help” fulfill prophecy through lobbying, financial support for Temple preparations, or viewing current wars as necessary steps on a divine timetable.

Live as the True Temple and One New Man

Embrace the glorious unity created at the cross:

“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier… His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two” (Ephesians 2:14-16).

Live this out in your church and relationships. Reject any theology that rebuilds the dividing wall between Jew and Gentile or treats one ethnic group as having a separate redemptive program.

Final Word

The Church does not need to wait for a Third Temple on the Temple Mount. The true Temple has already been raised — it is the body of Christ, indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The King is already on the throne. Our hope is not a future building project or a postponed kingdom. Our hope is Jesus — the Lamb who was slain, the Priest who sat down, the King who will hand a perfected kingdom to the Father when every enemy is under His feet.

May we be a people who live, teach, and proclaim in light of that glorious, present reality.

Thank you for coming along on this week long series. I pray it has strengthened your confidence in the finished work of Christ and equipped you to respond to these issues with biblical clarity and grace.

If you haven’t yet looked at these links, I encourage you to explore them prayerfully.

We truly live in momentous times.

God will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7). Twisting His Word through improper division or speculation can lead sheep astray and carries serious consequence.

Let us avoid vain debates and endless prophetic theories that distract from the gospel. Instead, let us stand firm on the only sure foundation—the Rock of our salvation: Jesus Christ our Lord, who reigns now with all authority (Matthew 28:18), the Chief Cornerstone, and the fulfillment of every promise.

May we fix our eyes on Him alone.

The King reigns now — and will continue to reign until every enemy is defeated.
